This course helps students develop the critical thinking and communication skills needed to have a positive impact on others and society.

We start with looking at how change happens, look at ways we can communicate more effectively and influence others, examine the lives of others who have made a big difference in the world and then choose topics to investigate further.

The class will be conducted as a seminar with research, speaking, discussion, presentation and analytical skills. A variety of classroom strategies will be used including presentations, small group discussions and research assignments.

Texts will include a selection from books listed here as well as others.

  • Tipping Point, Malcolm Gladwell
    Conversation, Theodore Zeldin
    Mountain Beyond Mountains, Tracy Kidder
    Presentation Zen, Garr Reynolds.
